Pennsylvania COVID-19 UPDATE, February 28, 2022

As of February 27, Pennsylvania hospitals were caring for 1,292 COVID-19 patients, m25.6% ore than 60 percent fewer than the 3,341 people with COVID-19 just three weeks ago, including 230 vs. the 558 in intensive care February 11 and 143 vs. 358 on breathing ventilators. Hospitals were caring for about 7,500 patients with COVID-19 a few weeks ago.  Approximately 7.5% of adult ICU beds are covid patients and 23.8% of ventilators statewide are in use.

On February 23, Governor Wolf announced that according to the CDC, 95% of all adult Pennsylvanians 18 years and older have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.  More than 76.5% of Pennsylvanians 18 or older are fully vaccinated.  Total vaccines administered by the state’s providers stand at more than 28,685,000.

  • 72,750 vaccine doses were administered in the past week, vs. the 122,642 doses administered during the last week in January, including:
  • 30,365 booster doses (vs. the 50,215 in late January) administered in the past week.
  • 7,144 pediatric doses (vs. the 18,008 in late January) administered in the past week.

Pennsylvania’s post-vaccination percentages we are seeing here are on par with those in other states,” she said, noting that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that national COVID-19 hospitalization data for December show that unvaccinated adults ages 50-64 were 45-times more likely to be hospitalized; people 65 and over were 51-times more likely to be hospitalized with COVID-19.

Since its onset Pennsylvania has had 2,288,644 confirmed and reported cases of COVID-19.  The daily average number of cases was 1,565, just 40% of the daily average during the week of February 6.

 

Pennsylvania’s COVID-19 death toll stood at 43,421 vs. the 41,781 as of February 11.

The Department of Health continues to provide the public with extensive and frequently updated data on both the COVID-19 dashboard and the vaccine dashboard. Both dashboards provide an interactive experience for the user to review statewide and local-level data updated daily.

The department also provides a dashboard showing COVID-19 data for skilled nursing homes including case counts, deaths and vaccination status for residents and staff.
