Dr. Mina Makary
is a graduate of Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University, Egypt. He completed his residency training in internal medicine at The Wright Center for Graduate Medical Education (WCGME), Scranton, PA in 2014. He then joined Geisinger as an inpatient attending physician, and served as the Director of Clinical Documentation Improvement, the Associate Director for Graduate and Undergraduate Medical Education, and the Director of Patient experience, Geisinger CMC, Scranton, PA. After serving as a general internist for five years, Dr. Makary decided to continue his medical training and specialized in medical oncology and hematology. He started his fellowship training in Medical-Oncology and Hematology, Geisinger Medical Center (GMC), Danville, PA in 2019. He currently serves as the chief fellow of the fellowship program and will be graduating in June 2022.

He also serviced as a volunteer clinical faculty at The Wright Center for Graduate Medical Education (WCGME) residency program, and as a council member at the PA-ACP Council. He holds the title of Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Department of Clinical Science at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine (GCSOM).

Dr. Makary is board certified in Internal Medicine, Hospital Medicine, and Medical Affairs. He was elected to Fellowship in the American College of Physicians (FACP) and has achieved the designation of Fellow in Hospital Medicine (FHM). He is a Certified Physician Specialist in Clinical Hypertension. He successfully completed Pennsylvania Medical Society’s 2017-2018 Year- Round Leadership Academy. He received his MBA degree in Healthcare Management from the University of Scranton in 2020.

Dr. Makary has received numerous awards including; the John Derrickson Early Career Physician Service Excellence award from the American College of Physicians (ACP), PAMED 2018 Top Physicians Under 40, Certificate of Appreciation in grateful recognition for his valuable contribution to the education of the Wright Center residents for academic year 2018-2019, ACP 2018 Young Achiever, The Wright Center for Graduate Medical Education (WCGME) Distinguished Alumnus, and Volunteer Recognition Awards. Dr. Makary was recently named the recipient of the 2021 PA ACP East Region Special Recognition Award.

His extracurricular interests include volunteer services, mission trips, and traveling. He is also a puppet theater founder.
