The Political Determinants of Health

At a time of increasing polarization in areas that determine health outcomes, ACP remains unwaveringly relentless in our mission to ensure the best, most equitable outcomes for our patients. The evidence is overwhelming and the imperative never greater- health Is more than healthcare. The majority of health outcomes are due to the social determinants of health, what some now label the “political determinants of health”, including, but not limited to, food and housing insecurity, financial barriers, educational and personal safety inequities, and other environmental factors. Additionally, healthcare financing, delivery and costs, industry consolidation, and advocacy initiatives are squarely in the political environment.

The session will give a broad overview of the myriad of factors that play into the political determinants of health, ACP policies and advocacy, and actionable interventions to improve health outcomes.
