Title: Use of Direct Oral Anticoagulants in Challenging Scenarios - Evidence or Convenience?
Speaker: Syed Bukhari, MD, MHA
Description:
This session will highlight subsets of patients that we encounter commonly in our everyday practice, who were either excluded from, or underrepresented in, the initial trials that studied direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) in venous thromboembolism and atrial fibrillation. These subsets include those with mechanical valves, antiphospholipid syndrome, cancer, extreme body weights, advanced renal disease, cirrhosis, and bariatric surgery. We will explore the evidence (or lack of), examine literature and highlight guidance statements/recommendations regarding use of DOACs in these subsets of patients.
